“To prevent and control the epidemic, the educational equipment industry in action” special report

At the beginning of 2020, an outbreak of pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus broke out, and it quickly escalated into a national public health event. The public health system of the entire society is facing unprecedented challenges. In this context, the education department, especially the educational equipment industry, must seize the time to re-examine the deficiencies of schools (kindergartens) in disinfection standards and system construction, and build a safe disinfection system covering schools (kindergartens) across the country with the help of cutting-edge scientific and technological means as soon as possible. The construction of  standardized software and hardware system for the prevention and control of infectious diseases ensures the smooth development of various tasks of the school.

Dr. Li Ding, Chairman of Shandong Yuanda-llongwill Educational science and Technology Ltd., and Liu Haitao, Deputy Director of Weifang City Education Bureau, Shandong Province, co-authored an article “New Challenges of COVID-19 Prevention and Control to School (Kindergarten) Hygiene - Taking the standardized construction of school(kindergarten) safety disinfection system as an example", was published in the 332th issue of "China Modern Educational Equipment" in February 2020.

The article draws arguments from three aspects: the definition of the basic concepts of campus infectious diseases, the basis and characteristics of the epidemic of campus infectious diseases, the spreading model of campus infectious diseases, and the prevention and control path, and analyzes the major issues that schools in various regions will face after the beginning of spring. Challenge-School hygiene and epidemic prevention work. The complex campus environment and high population density provide ample breeding space for various campus infectious diseases. Only a clear understanding of various infectious diseases and their transmission methods can effectively use scientific methods to prevent and control.

As we all know, safety is the most basic issue that schools (kindergartens) need to consider for disinfection and epidemic prevention. The whole society does not allow secondary health hazards to students (children) caused by improper disinfection. Secondly, it is the disinfection effect and other issues. So, how can we ensure that the physical condition of the teachers and students in the school is not affected, and the full-scale safety disinfection of the school building environment with human presence can be carried out? Through a large amount of literature, the author leads everyone to an important direction for the prevention and control of campus infectious diseases-chlorine dioxide disinfection.

Chlorine dioxide has now been listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a class A1 high-efficiency and safe disinfectant. Under normal circumstances, chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a yellow-green gas with a pungent odor and its boiling point is 11℃. At room temperature, 2.9g of chlorine dioxide can be dissolved in 1L of water. It has strong bactericidal and disinfection ability in water, also has a long lasting effect, and is less affected by pH changes in the water body. Chlorine dioxide is widely used. In addition to general sterilization and disinfection, it is also widely used in environmental protection, algae killing, bleaching, preservation, and deodorization. Since other chlorine-containing disinfectants are prone to form carcinogens, our country has gradually used chlorine dioxide instead of chlorine to disinfect drinking water since 2000. However, chlorine dioxide disinfection is not well-known to the public, so the author, after combing out the current part of the education system in our country for the school (kindergarten) sanitation management system and standards and norms, proposed to amend the current school (kindergarten) sanitation management system as soon as possible. Under the pressure of the COVID-19 outbreak, the demand for disinfection in the presence of people has suddenly become extremely strong, and it is very urgent to promote the use of chlorine dioxide for disinfection in the presence of people.

This COVID-19 has caused huge losses to the country and society, but also gave people comprehensive lessons and warnings. Education is the foundation. Regarding school hygiene, we must be based on the mentality of remedying the situation, examine the shortcomings and deficiencies of existing work from science and rationality, make bold assumptions, carefully verify verification, and formulate disinfection that meets the health and hygiene requirements of the school (kindergarten) as soon as possible with innovative spirit and sense of responsibility. The construction of the epidemic prevention system is planned and implemented. Reform is a complex and hard work, but we cannot wait or retreat, because this is the responsibility given to people by the state and society.
